"6 a.m.: a patchouli farm, the crowing of a rooster. I remember waking up very early that morning. We had slept in a village on the edge of a patchouli farm. An old man was burning dry grass next to me. It was a beautiful, warm day and we could see many frangipani trees blooming around us. One of the farm workers came to pick me up on a motorcycle. We walked on a dirt path through the jungle, then we crossed a wooden bridge that balanced precariously over a ford.
There were a lot of trees, we had to zigzag a lot to get around them. In the field, patchouli leaves dried in the sun. A few men had climbed on top of a rooster and cut a few coconuts to quench our thirst. In the distance, the sky had begun to darken, and the wind had risen. The leaves were blowing. There was an electric voltage in the air. The storm that seemed so far away had reached us very quickly. The thunder rumbled loudly. One drop, two drops... Then, suddenly, a torrential rain. A relentless rain and an incessant lightning that lasted until early morning. That's how I discovered ptachouli for the first time. "
