Absinthe Boreale was inspired by a fascinating moment, serving a shot of absinthe while watching the Northern Lights. It was such a magical experience that I wanted to celebrate it.
We were in the Arctic area, a deadly frost, temperatures between -20 °C and -28 °C. It was night, so the frost felt even more cruel. I had left the city to go to the countryside, where there are higher chances of seeing the Northern Lights, a very rare phenomenon.
The Northern Lights are not seen every day or at any time of the year. Even in her season, you have to be lucky to be able to see her. We started with an incredibly fun dog sled ride. It was amazing to see how happy the dogs were doing this with us. Then I got to a place where I could see the Northern Lights and it was absolutely captivating, it gave me goosebumps.
Imagine that you are in a very cold environment, but at the same time you are dressed for winter and you feel quite comfortable. I wanted this fragrance to convey the contrast between cold and comfort, so I used aromatic notes such as Absinthe, mugwort, rosemary and eucalyptus to achieve this, the perfumer emphasizing these two facets. The fresh notes of absinthe, artemisia and lavender are accentuated by the addition of rosemary, thyme, juniper berries and lemon, which really offer a lively, tasteful start.
The notes of musk and wood were perfect to express this purity and a feeling of relaxation.
