Description
Osmanthe Kōdoshān was inspired by the breathtaking encounter with the osmanthus high up on a mist-shrouded mountain peak. It was a very humid day, it was raining a lot and it was really foggy. We left early in the morning and climbed for about ten hours, covering around 40 km on steep mountain steps.
I was attacked by monkeys, which took me completely by surprise, and then I entered an old, very quiet monastery. I saw tiles, stone walls covered with moss and fountains. The light drizzle turned into rain. Suddenly, I came across the osmanthus flower, but I also smelled other scents, such as star anise, black tea and skin.
For this fragrance, we focused on the skin facet of osmanthus, while providing a contrast to the vivid and sharp top notes of Sichuan pepper and star anise. Then I created a moist, ozonic sensation, with the help of notes of black tea and patchouli. The heart of the fragrance is, of course, Osmanthus, which has notes of apricot fruits as well as a skin facet. I extended this facet with patchouli, additional notes of leather and a tobacco absolute, for a modern chypre fragrance with a fruity note.
